People do stupid things
Sometimes, you have to pay a stupid tax. Today was my day.
We have a big plasma screen in our main foyer that loops through announcements. It hasn’t been working lately. It’s wired strangely. A standard VGA cable runs from the wall where the screen is all the way back to Pastor Bob’s office. We connect a laptop to it and use PowerPoint to get the image to the plasma.
Anyway, we suspected there was a disconnect somewhere in the cable. So I wanted to eliminate that possibility. I climbed a 10 foot ladder with a Pastor Bob’s laptop to directly connect it to the plasma. Turns out, the plasma is working fine. As I was reconnecting the old cable, the laptop tipped off the top of the ladder and plummeted to the carpeted concrete slab below.
Needless to say, that destroyed the laptop. It did hold up pretty well. The fall only destroyed the hard drive, everything else survived. The best part (for me) is that the laptop is still under warranty. Even the Dell guy laughed at me. Pastor laid on the razzing pretty thick. I have a feeling this is going to end up a sermon illustration eventually.
What a day.

Unfortunately I do stuff like that all the time :\ Tripping over cables connected to cameras and other expensive stuff is the worst for me. Stuff just sits there waiting for me to break it. I’m glad there is someone else
