TiVo wish list
I don’t even want to think about life without TiVo. It has simply changed everything about how I watch television. Honestly, I watch less of it. TiVo makes sure I don’t miss anything I wanna see, so I go on about my business and catch up on tv when I feel like it.
However, there are a few features that I really am surprised are missing. Perhaps these are unique to me. And it would be my luck the feature is there somewhere and I’ve just missed it (but I doubt it).
1. BIGGER. Holy crap, 40 hours?! Are you kidding me?! That might be ok if you don’t mind watching a horrid quality video. But to get anything watchable, you’d be lucky to get 10 hours recorded. I wanted to upgrade the day I opened the thing! If it wasn’t for Jason, I doubt I would have ever tried it. It was an intimidating project. I’m really, really glad I did. I was able to fix this one myself. How about 100+ hours with the best quality video? Oh yeah. That was a LOT of research time well spent.
2. DUAL TUNER. Seriously, I would expect this kind of… juvenile (for lack of a better word) technology from a VCR. But come on, you have to watch it at the same time if you want to record it? Sure I can just bypass the TiVo and watch tv the old fashioned way, but really, doesn’t that defeat the purpose? Dual recording would be even better, but at the very least let me watch another channel while something is recording.
3. HD INTERGRATION. How in the world will they survive without this? It has to be hurting sales. I’m seriously missing it.
4. SMARTER ON THE FLY RECORDING. I think this would be a revolutionary feature. When you push the record button, it starts recording. I know what you’re thinking… genius. Right? However, what if it were smarter? There are times when I’m watching a show and think: “So and so needs to see this.” It would be awesome if when told to record on the fly it will also save the beginning part of the show that it has cached and tack it on so the full show is saved.
5. ORGANIZATION OF RECORDED SHOWS. It would be great to have the option to group shows together based on category, date, show, or some other qualifier. In other words, I’d like to organize my view of what is recorded. It would be easier for me to navigate if the recordings were grouped by show instead of just a list sorted by date in descending order.
I would love to know what all the DVR users out there think. Am I way off? Did I miss something?

Here’s my wish list: 1) To get some TV time away from the kids; 2) more channels than just basic cable; 3) a TiVo, please. When it comes to the boob-toob, I live in a bubble these days.
