media design help

I need some help. We are researching what we need to invest in to update our media for Sunday morning worship. We aren’t currently using any cameras or IMAG in worship, but we are ready to purchase a few cameras to do some of our own video productions as well as record our weekend experiences for archival and distribution.

We are on track to build our new Auditorium in 1-2 years. At that time, we will be prepared to hire someone to help us design and implement a much better system. But we aren’t prepared to bring in a consultant now.

I thought I had an idea of what I wanted to do. But after I whipped up a Visio drawing to help me visualize it, I saw several flaws. Turns out, I simply just don’t know enough. I’m more of an IT geek.

So any churches that have trotted this path before, I’d love to pick your brain. Plus, I love road trips! As long as I can make it a day trip, I’d love to visit. I’m curious how you integrate cameras into worship and record and archive services.

We went through the process a while back and our scale is probably a little overwhelming for what you’re looking to do, but it’s helpful to design something that *can* scale should the need arise. You might also want to touch base with Jason Wilson at Indian Creek Community Church in Olathe, KS, as they just recently built a new auditorium.

We have a 3-5 camera setup in our 2,000 person worship venue. We’ve used GlobeCaster (http://globalstreams.com/) for MANY years now. We use it for worship lyrics, sermon notes, and can handle cameras. It’s a moderately difficult system, but we’ve managed to simplify many of the procedures so that volunteers can handle it. If you have any questions on it, let me know. jreed

I see that you didn’t get any response to your video questions either. At least in comments anyway. We are looking to do the same thing but mostly for distributing video to overflow. I’m predominately a sound guy so I need to learn more about video. I’ll be checking back to see if you get any response.
