More about PostReach and ClickComments
The PostReach folks left a comment on my last post about them (thanks!). So as long as they’re paying attention, I’ll keep sharing a few random thoughts.
I’m not sure if it’s JavaScript or AJAX, but the drop down box that appears when you vote really annoyed me at first. I kept searching for a way to turn it off, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to do so yet. However, I see now what it’s doing. It appears to be highlighting posts that received similar voting trends. For instance, if I get 10 ‘Cool’ votes on a post, the drop box shows other posts from my blog that were voted ‘Cool’. That is a very slick idea.
It worries me a little that I’m going to say something stupid, then I’m going to get lots of ‘I disagree’ votes, then PostReach is going to highlight all the stupid things I say.
lol. So perhaps an option to turn off the negative highlighting (or the highlighting in general) would be a good option to implement.
Also, since it has that nifty drop down box anyway, maybe a feature to leave a small comment (100 characters or less). This would still be pretty anonymous, but at least an opportunity to say something quick. Then that dropdown would be more like a shout box of sorts. Perhaps it could be limited to 10 comments or less. Also, as an administrator, It would be nice to log into the ClickComment site and pick which comments I want to show, hide, or delete. I realize that to leave comments would require a lot of server space for PostReach, since they are hosting all of the information. Perhaps the quick comment feature could be implemented for a small fee?
Or, maybe even an actual shout box type of plug-in. When you click on a ClickComment, you can leave a brief note on a form that could appear right under the click comment widget, then on some sidebar there can be another widget showing the comment, and what post it was referencing. This is similar to the “recent comments” feature that many blogs already have, just a slight twist.
I’m not certain how any of these idea fit into PostReachs’ vision for their company, but those are just some random thoughts off the top of my head. All in all, I love what PostReach is doing. If you haven’t checked out ClickComments yet, you should give it a look.

We don’t highlight negatively commented posts. We are going to try and make the recommendation box a bit more intuitive.
Your suggestions about customization are along the lines of what we are thinking. If you want to be part of our blogger panel we can give you previews of what we are planning to do. Just email me.
