My fav. tech of 2007

By far, the technology highlight of 2007 occurred for me on November 30th. That was the day I picked up my iPhone.

I debated back and forth since it was announced if I want one. The cost was a huge issue. AT&T was another. Finally, when the iTouch came out and had more storage capacity, I assumed an iPhone hardware update was just around the corner.

But the price dropped, AT&T isn’t any better or worse than Verizon, and the update is always around the corner. So I stopped debating and bought my first smart phone. I haven’t looked back yet.

I knew it would be awesome. Everything Apple does has style. However, this thing has far exceeded every expectation I had for it.

Just a few pros…

  • The internet everywhere
  • IMAP + Gmail + iPhone = perfect
  • I actually use a calendar now
  • Txting/typing is really easy for me
  • Visual voicemail
  • Touchscreen is amazing
  • iPod
  • Everything is beautiful, no detail left unpolished
  • It recognizes phone numbers in txt messages and emails. Just click and it calls.
  • iTunes. I never thought I’d use it… but I do.

Not everything is perfect. It has some cons…

  • I want the notes to recognize phone numbers too
  • Multiple txt recipients (update coming)
  • Picture messaging
  • Moveable icons (update coming)
  • 3rd party apps (update coming)
  • CUSTOMIZATION

I understand Apple likes things to be a certain way. But it drives me nuts how limited my customization options are. The one that bothers me the most is the dock. If I jailbreak my phone and change one little Boolean operator on one little config file, I can have the iTouch glass dock and it DRIVES ME NUTS. I hate that silver mesh dock. Come on Apple, it’s my phone, let me screw it up. When I mess it up so bad I have to do a restore I don’t even mind a smug pop-up box that says “We told you so. You should have left it alone.” But I at least want the option.

Overall, I love the thing. I wouldn’t trade it for any other phone and I’d recommend it to anyone. I realize the lack of Exchange support is a deal breaker for many, but it’s only a matter of time before they fix that.
